Kennedy Center Director Discusses Arts Management in Romania

In a series of three PD Bucharest-organized concerts on May 25 and 26, the underclass "Yale Spizzwinks(?)," men’s choir drew appreciative crowds of several hundred people to outdoor stages at two of Bucharest’s most beautiful parks and a suburban cultural center. Some of the most fervent fans of the Spizzwinks(?) were a specially-invited children’s group from a Bucharest boys’ orphanage, but the tuxedo-clad singers won enthusiastic fans of all ages and backgrounds with their appealing mix of popular harmonies and wacky humor. One elderly audience member, nearly in tears, came up to tell how much Romanians love Americans, and thanked the US Embassy for bringing in live American music to Bucharest. The 17 young Spizzwinks(?) proved to be great cultural Ambassadors, mixing freely with the crowds, singing autographs, posing for photos with the girls, and winning friends for America.
