"PUBLIC - PRIVATE TECHNOLOGY PARTNERSHIPS: ROMANIA TAKES THE LEAD": ROMANIAN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY INITIATIVE CONFERENCE HELD IN BUCHAREST

Two million Romanian citizens have better access to public information and education. 10,000 business owners can use information technology to register their businesses, promote their products and compete in local and international markets. New IT businesses have been created throughout Romania. This has been possible through the combined effort of the Government of Romania and the private sector with the support of the U.S. Government, through the United States Agency for International Development.

Organizations in Giurgiu, Braila, Dambovita, Valcea, Galati, Constanta, and Sibiu participated in the Romanian Information Technology Initiative program to increase efficiency in the local governments while reducing administrative costs and providing opportunities for IT solutions to administrative problems.

Officials from the U.S. Embassy and the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications as well as representatives of local governments and private businesses joined together to celebrate the achievements of this joint U.S - Romanian project at a conference today. U.S. Agency for International Development Mission Director, Rodger Garner, praised the work of the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications and the local governments and pointed out the key role played by the private sector in developing important information technology solutions to common problems. “Private businesses have contributed to the project, by investing their own money and human resources. These investments are the foundation of economic growth. When government at all levels works constructively with private businesses, there’s no limit to what we can accomplish” said Garner.

Mr. Garner offered a laptop computer to a young student at the telecenter established by this project in Constanta. Radu Vasile, who won the Cisco company’s international competition “Against All Odds” trophy which includes a trip to Spain to receive the trophy. He also expressed his appreciation to Liviu Costandache, Constanta training center’s administrator.

Participants in the conference discussed the pilot projects and plans for the future. The Romanian Government will continue to implement similar projects in close cooperation with the private sector.

"PARTENERIATELE PUBLICE-PRIVATE: ROMANIA IA INITIATIVA": CONFERINTA INITIATIVEI IT DIN ROMANIA ARE LOC LA BUCURESTI

In Romania au fost infiintate noi companii IT.

Radu Vasile a castigat trofeul “Against All Odds” (“In ciuda tuturor problemelor”) al concursului international organizat de compania Cisco, care include o excursie gratuita in Spania pentru ridicarea trofeului.

Date fiind rentabilitatea proiectului si interesul larg al beneficiarilor, Guvernul Romaniei va continua sa implementeze proiecte similare, in stransa colaborare cu sectorul privat.
