EnvironACT at the American Corners Romania
To the environmentalist's three "R's" of "reduce, reuse, and recycle" high school students in Iasi, Romania added "repurpose." Students from two high schools turned an
American Corner-sponsored rubbish cleanup activity into a fun competition to see which team could best create useful objects - "repurpose" them - literally
turning trash into treasure. They also had fun in a race to plant flowers along a formerly littered school walkway and performed original skits and songs about keeping
Romania clean.
The event was American Corner Iasi's contibution to the US Mission-supported EnvironACT projects aimed at involving Romanian youth in
action-oriented civic projects, focused on environmental awareness. Counselor for Public Affairs Judy Moon, who participated in all the activities, met with Iasi city
officials and the media to promote the project.
